The Technician III is responsible for the planning and sequencing of progressive operations for the layout and setting up of various additive manufacturing machinery. Plans the sequence of progressive operations by working from work instructions, blueprints, sketches, and other documents. Fabricates and finishes metal additive components by operating additive manufacturing machinery and post processing equipment. Uses blueprints, CAD, or design sketches to ensure proper dimensions and tolerance levels of the finished product. Sets up machines to perform operations within its capability by positioning, aligning and securing work, utilizing and adapting existing tooling and other machining aids for the various additive manufacturing processes machinery. Maintains complex additive manufacturing machinery with attention to detail and cleanliness to ensure proper machine operation. Determines operations to be performed, dimensions, tolerances, cutting tools to be used to minimize required for any post additive manufacturing build machining operations. Determines, sets, and adjusts feeds, speeds, depths, stops and performs minor maintenance, as necessary for these machining operations.

Primary Responsibilities:

Additive Manufacturing Operations

  • Learn the additive manufacturing trade including set-ups, inspections, blueprint reading, software programing and production processes.

  • Set up machines to perform operations within its capability by positioning, aligning and securing work, utilizing and adapting appropriate tools, and validating proper additive build files

  • Ability to establish priorities of work.

  • Demonstrate the analytical skills that are necessary for allowable machine adjustments and performing the various additive manufacturing processes.

  • Demonstrate proper use of inspection equipment including indicators, micrometers, calipers, and surface plates.

  • Adhere to all EH&S requirements pertaining to additive manufacturing processes which includes proper handling of fine metal powders

Technical Skills

  • Learn proper usage of machines and tools to build production hardware and to verify accuracy of such hardware.

  • Inspect and certify own work.

  • Ability to apply knowledge learned on one process to other processes without extensive support.

  • Demonstrate proper use of machines and tools.

  • Ability to continuously learn additional technical skills.

  • Ability to read blueprints, sketches, and other documents.

  • Demonstrate extensive use of math and computer skills.

Participation

  • Participate in Continuous Improvement efforts to reduce cost and minimize waste.

  • Participate in audits.

Equipment Maintenance

  • Responsible for upkeep of production equipment, including all preventative maintenance tasks for additive manufacturing lab equipment.

  • Determine equipment maintenance schedule.

  • Responsible for cleaning machines.

  • Responsible for adding change coolant in a timely manner.

  • Inert used additive manufacturing filters and clean cannisters

  • Maintain machine uptime.

  • Responsible for additive manufacturing lab equipment, inspection gages and fixtures

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Machinist Technical School Certificate/Diploma

  • 2 + years experience operating and maintaining metal additive manufacturing equipment is preferred

  • 2+ years experience operating and maintaining Wire EDM equipment

  • CAD/CAM is preferred

  • Magics Software knowledge i

  • Ability to troubleshoot complex equipment

  • Ability to identify and improve processes

  • Perform work with minimal work direction

Basic Qualifications:

  • Must be a U.S. Person/Permanent Resident Green Card holder

  • Minimum Education Requirement: High School Diploma or equivalent

  • Ability to read prints and follow assembly instruction.

  • Must be able to effectively work in an environment requiring repetitive job responsibilities.

  • Ability to focus on safety and quality is extremely important.

  • Must be highly motivated and dedicated to exceeding customer expectations.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
